Dr. Jebediah Drinkwell's 2007 Meritage...WIne with a Song!

That's right... Every bottle of wine comes complete with lyrics to a song on the back that exclaim "Dr. Drinkwell makes singing fun again!" Nothing says good wine like a shimmering afro clad icon on the front label, and song lyrics on the back (all true statements)! Though somewhat wrapped in sillyness, this blend of 60% Cab Franc 27% Merlot 11% Cab Sauvignon 1% Malbec and 1% Petit verdot is the real deal! Once out of the bottle, you won't pick up a lot on the nose, but the taste will linger on the tongue, not unlike the lyrics themselves... You'll get cherries on the roof of your mouth and a lingering dak chocolate. One might describe the body as a little thin, but it is big on the tatse buds. Tannins are here (that sort of dry on the mouth feel) but not overly obnoxious... That makes this a drink now for me.... This wine is great with well seasoned flank steak or other red meat. At a bit less than $10 you really can't go wrong! It's one of my favorite Trader Joe's regulars... By a bottle so you can sing along.

Petit Verdot 2007, Who Dat?

Trader Joe's Reserve... it's like getting to sneak in the cellar for a wine run... You just grab it and run as fast as you can... Petit Verdot is a bit of a secret, used mainly for blending. I'm a big fan... just check out "The Look".. . It carries some "Tannin" so you get that soft chewy feeling in the mouth, not unlike cotton candy without all the sugar... Ok, actually nothing like cotton candy, more of a Kleenex, but with flavor. It will really dry your mouth out without giving you the munchies. On the tail end of the taste an inkling of fruit will linger on the tip of your tongue...wow! And for those of you interested, the color is blood red, deep and inviting (that really sounds sexual)...

This 2007 from Paso Robles is a sure winner (I didn't blog it until I was sure to have enough in my own clutches ;-). A reasonable price at less than $10. Drinking it tonight w/ a thai chicken, but imagine it would go well with any hearty meat dish...Or just like I'm drinking it now, all by its lonesome!

Ruffino IL Ducale 2006... A Great Bargain, But at What Cost?

A great bargain at 9.99... Cheapest price I could find is 15.99 on the web + shipping. SO I wondered, what's with the smokin' deal? This blend is 60% Sangiovese 20% Merlot and 20% Syrah... With this 3some in the house I was looking for a little bit of fruit (yeah, I know...it's Italian, so dryness is the word of the day). Nonetheless, I had hoped maybe it wasn't too-good-to-be-true. You might be able to tell by "the look" it didn't rock my word. Still, it doesn't stand alone as a sipper, didn't go well with my tacos (a little spice just crushed it)... but I imagine it will hold its own with a nice soft pasta sauce. I'd say take a chance and let your pallete decide. I think a lot of peeps will bite on the bait at this price, so if you're in... get in fast!

Trentatre Rosso 2007

The look on my face may say it all.... But this Italian gem is a steal at $6 a bottle... I'll give you all the details in a bit :-)

Sharing some thoughts and notes about Trader Joe's Wines

People ask me all the time... "So what wine for this, or what wine for that..." I find more often than not directing them to trader Joe's as most people are familiar with it and things are easy to find. With that said, Here we are with a blog about wine.
